Beyoncé’s ‘Sweet Honey Buckiin’ Lyrics Address Her Grammy Snubs for Album of the Year

Beyoncé, Shaboozey, and Pharrell Williams’ “Sweet Honey Buckiin’” is a three-part song that offers some of Beyoncé’s most extensive comments on the music industry, fame, and staying true to her roots throughout her entire Cowboy Carter album.

The lyrics generating the most attention, though, are the ones where Beyoncé calls out the Recording Academy for never awarding her with Album of the Year.

Jay-Z spoke about it at this year’s Grammys while accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, saying, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady [Beyoncé], but she has more Grammys than everyone, and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: the most Grammys, never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work.”

Beyoncé, of course, is the most-nominated female artist in Grammys history and the winningest artist with 32 trophies and 88 nominations. She has never won Album of the Year.

While she didn’t say anything during any Grammys ceremony, she did reflect on it in “Sweet Honey Buckiin’.” She sang, “A-O-T-Y, I ain’t win / I ain’t stuntin’ ’bout them / Take that shit on the chin / Come back and fuck up the pen.”

Beyoncé waving off her Grammys snub wasn’t the only revelation in her lyrics though. There’s a lot of insight in the track as well. Listen to “Sweet Honey Buckiin’” and read the extensive lyrics below, via Genius.
