A Streaming Guide to American Fiction

American Fiction, a film starring Jeffrey Wright, Sterling K. Brown, Tracee Ellis Ross, Erika Alexander, and Issa Rae, has received a slew nominations following its release in December 2023. Just this morning, it received five Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Supporting Actor (Brown), Lead Actor (Wright), Original Score, and Adapted Screenplay.

Based off of the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, the movie is about a Black professor and writer named Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Wright), who writes a satire book full of Black stereotypes to prove a point. However, the novel ends up getting published and becoming extremely successful.

Since the film’s initial release, there hasn’t been an official announcement from any streaming service that American Fiction will be available for viewing, but it’s likely that you will be able to eventually stream it on Amazon Prime Video, as this is an Amazon MGM Studios production. There is a chance that it might also appear on MGM Plus.

As for an estimated timeline on when American Fiction could be available to watch from the comfort of your couch, it’s safe to assume that we can base it off of Saltburn, another Amazon MGM Studios production. Saltburn had its theatrical release on Nov. 17, 2023, and just over a month later on December 22, the movie made its way to Amazon Prime.

American Fiction released in select theaters in the United States on December 15 and is set to hit the U.K. on February 2. If this film follows the same timeline as Saltburn, it could be expected to stream by the end of January or in early March, a month after the U.K. premiere.
