See the Cast of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Reunite 20 Years Later
On Friday, America Ferrera celebrated her Critics Choice Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Ferrera was joined by her fellow castmates from an entirely different movie, The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, a film that came out in 2005.
Now, almost 20 years later, the Barbie star is still friends with the sisterhood. She posed for pictures with Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn. The moment was first reported by Happy Sad Confused podcast host, Josh Horowitz, who wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter,“I just need everyone to know I witnessed the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants women reunite in front of my eyes tonight and Blake Lively and I talked about how lazy Santa is.”
Later, Ferrera shared a reel on her Instagram timeline showing the group posing in their outfits, where her friends honored Barbie with a pink theme. Lively wore a sleeveless dress in bubblegum pink with a fluffy skirt and elbow-length opera gloves, as well as pointed heels to match. Bledel had on a pink pencil skirt and black top and blazer with open toe pumps, and Tamblyn had on a pink suit over a white blouse. Ferrera was dress in a white wrap dress with long sleeves, black tights, and black shoes.
“The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night. I love these women with all my heart,” Ferrera wrote in the caption.
The original film The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants was based on the novel of the same name written by Ann Brashares and it follows four girls who pass around a pair of jeans that magically fits them all, keeping them connected as their lives start to change. The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2 was released in 2008, and there has been a lot of discussion over the years about doing a third installment.
In 2018, Bledel discussed the group’s enduring friendship, and said on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, “We don’t get to see each other a lot because everybody’s work or family and everything…But when everybody is in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie and I hope it comes together. It would be so great.”
Lively told Entertainment Tonight soon after, “I think it could really happen. I think that people who love the movie want to see it. So, I mean, fans have gotten bigger movies made.”
In 2019, Ferrera also told ET that the dream was still alive, saying, “Fingers crossed that something comes to fruition with that, but it’s been a vision and a dream of ours for a while now…We’re all moms now. We’ve all got a lot going on, but we’ve got a beautiful friendship and we love these movies and we love this story and our friendship together [and] the friendship of these girls. So, we’re sticking with it and we’ll see what happens.”
But with COVID-19 and various strikes shutting down productions, those dreams have been delayed. In 2022, however, Tamblyn renewed hope for fans on Sirius XM’s Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw.
“It’s very complicated for a lot of reasons, some of which include just the fact that between the four of us, we all have, like, 870 children,” she joked. “I know that that is a great hope for all four of us, is to be able to work together again. To me, it feels like the ultimate grift where I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, we’re gonna get paid to hang out when we do that in real life anyway? Cool. I’m in.’”
The hang out has started early.
