Margot Robbie Joins SAG-AFTRA’s Rally in Style

When the Screen Actors Guild strike was called in July, Margot Robbie had been on her Barbie press tour—and abruptly stopped promoting the film the moment it began.

Now, two months into the strike, she brought her billion-dollar Barbie box office star power to the picket line. Robbie joined the union’s and Writers Guild of America’s march from Netflix Studios to Paramount Studios yesterday. She wore just an oversized SAG-AFTRA T-shirt with white sneakers and sunglasses.

Robbie spoke during the Barbie premiere in London about her support of the SAG strike. She said then that she would “absolutely” be part of it. “I’m very much in support of all of the unions,” she told Sky News. “And I’m a part of SAG so I would absolutely stand by that.”

Since the strike was called on July 13, SAG-AFTRA has not had any formal talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, Variety reported. While the union has spoken with AMPTP leadership in backchannel talks, the strike’s end isn’t in sight.

“There’s obviously conversations that happen, but there is no planned return to the bargaining table,” SAG union leader Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said yesterday after the rally. “There’s been no request for that from them. I’ve been requesting it, as you know, like every fricking day.”

The union is striking for higher wages, protection written in their contract against AI replacing or taking work from them, and to receive a portion of streaming revenue among other issues. You can read more here about what they are fighting for.
