GPI trains 1485 peer educators on anti-human trafficking in Edo – Nigerian Observer

 BENIN CITY -The Girls Power Initiative (GPI), an NGO said it trained 1,485 peer educators on anti-human trafficking in Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts during its anti-human trafficking campaign project, ‘Don’t Pay With Your Life (DPWYL)’ from June 2019 to August 2022.

According to the Coordinator of the campaign, Grace Osakue, the figure is made up of 755 in Edo Central and 730 in Edo North, including 1,264 females and 221 males.

Osakue, Co-founder of GPI gave the brief in Benin City during the closure meeting of the campaign project said it was implemented in collaboration with the Justice Development Peace and Caritas Initiative (JDPCI), Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

She said that 60,651 peer educators, made up of 30,292 and 30,359 in Edo North and Central Senatorial District respectively.

According to her, the campaign project was follow up to an earlier project aimed at achieving greater impact in nine selected local government areas of the two senatorial districts.

The Project Officer, May Ekido disclosed that the campaign focused on protection young girls in Edo State from being trafficked, using various platforms.

The Director of JDPCI, Rev. Fr. Fidelis Arhedo said that the campaign project was a holistic approach to human trafficking, noting that the families have a role to play in reintegrating survivors of human trafficking.
