ActionAid empowers 2000 youths – Daily Trust

The Programme Officer, Migration Coordinator Officer, ActionAid Nigeria, Edo State, Mrs Chioma Eze, yesterday disclosed that the organisation has empowered 2,000 returned migrants under its Migration II project between the year 2020 and 2022 in the state.

Mrs Eze disclosed this in Benin during the project’s capacity building on effective migration response for relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in Edo State.

She said the three years programme funded by the Italian Agency for Development Corporation (AICS) is being implemented in Benin, Auchi, and Uromi areas of the state.

She said the Migration II project tagged Death to Hope Project is aimed at addressing the root cause of irregular migration and improving the social-economic access for youths in the state as an alternative to irregular migration since unemployment is one of the push factors for irregular migration.

“Under the Migration II projects started two years ago, we have empowered 2000 youths with vocational skill acquisition, business spaces, and operational grants for SMEs. After the empowerment, we give them stipends for lunch and transport fare for three months,” she said.
