Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of a member representing Aguata II Constituency in the State House of Assembly,  Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, who was abducted, last week, by unknown gunmen.

Spokesperson for the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tochukwu Ikenga, told newsmen, yesterday, that Okoye had been killed.

    
He said the lawmakers’ head was found along Nnobi road on Saturday, and that there is no suspect in custody yet. Recall that Okoye and his aide, Cyril Chiegboka, were kidnapped at Aguata and the Toyota Sienna car, they were driving was abandoned on the road.
Police later recovered the car, saying that they had deployed operatives to begin a manhunt and track the kidnappers. However, Okoye’s severed head was discovered at Chisco park in Amichi community, Anambra State.

MEANWHILE, Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has condemned the gruesome murder of Hon Okoye and pledged N10 million reward for any valuable information to track the killers.
 
Soludo spoke through his press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, in a statement,  on Saturday night, as he condoled with the victim’s family.
 
The statement read:  “Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Anambra State governor, has received with shock and deep sadness the news of the gruesome murder of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, member representing Aguata II Constituency at the State House of Assembly and his aide, Cyril Chiegboka. Both Hon Okoye and Cyril Chiegboka were kidnapped on the road by the heartless and barbaric murderers on May 15.
  
“He condoles with his kinsmen of Isuofia, noting that it is probably the same criminal gang that attacked him and killed three policemen at Isuofia two years ago that are once again on the prowl. But they can never cow down Isuofia and Anambra State.

 
“The governor, still in shock over the barbaric acts against his two kinsmen, vowed that the perpetrators as well as all criminals operating in Anambra must be decisively brought to book.
 
“He has consequently placed a N10 million reward for anyone or group that will avail valuable information that will lead to the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of this dastardly act. Anambra will soon be a hell for these criminals, Gov Soludo assured.
 
“He wishes to reassure Ndi Anambra of government’s resolve and renewed determination with the security agencies to go all out against the criminals and ensure they are brought to justice.”
 
He added that Anambra will win against the forces of darkness, and urged the citizens to brace up for the all out war against the criminals.
 
Also, Anambra State House of Assembly has expressed deep shock over the news of the gruesome murder of one of their colleague, Hon Okoye, by unknown gunmen.
 
In a statement by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Uche Okafor, made available to newsmen by the House Public Relations Officer, Emma Madu, the lawmaker described the death of Okoye, as unfortunate and heart breaking.
 
He said Okoye was one of the outspoken and articulate lawmakers, lamenting that the Legislative Institution in the state has lost a quality member in the person of Okoye.
  
While commiserating with the late Okoye’s immediate family, his kinsman, Governor Soludo and the entire Isuofia community on behalf of the members of the State House of Assembly and the entire Legislature, Okafor enjoined them to take solace in the fact that the short but eventful life of the Okoye was full of quality service to God and humanity.
