Furla Unveils New Creative Hub Progetto Italia and Linea Futura Bag
Since 1927, Italian accessories brand Furla has been synonymous with understated luxury, producing some of the highest quality and competitively priced leather goods on the market. Its reach is vast—products are available in hundreds of retailers worldwide. With Furla’s latest project, Progetto Italia, president Giovanna Furlanetto, daughter of founder Aldo Furlanetto, is ensuring that Furla’s legacy will exist for the next century to come.
Built into a gentle slope on the side of a Tuscan highway, Progetto Italia is Furla’s brand-new creative hub and manufacturing center focusing on innovation and sustainability. Realized by Udine’s Gezo studio, Progetto Italia was constructed to mesh seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings of Tavernelle Val di Pesa. The building is low to the ground and tiered to cater to the grooves of the hill it shares. Open, warm, and every bit inviting, with windows angled to let in natural let and not a single obstructive wall, it’s a space that encourages its 130 local workers to work in harmony with nature.
In fact, Progetto Italia’s unity with its natural surroundings was incredibly important for Furlanetto, as Furla sets out to include more sustainable practices in its production processes. From sustainable leathers made with organic dyes to recycled PVC used in its Re-Candy line that debuted earlier this year, the brand is taking inspiration from its new home in Tuscany. The modern, eco-friendly architecture of Progetto Italia complements the work of its creatives and craftsmen, and vice versa.
Case in point: the new Linea Futura handbag. Inspired by the clean lines of Progetto Italia, the Linea Futura is a minimalist’s dream. The handbag is sleek, with a top handle featuring gentle sloping lines not unlike those of Progetto Italia. Available in a diverse range of colors, including muted neutrals and bold neons, and even suede fringe for the more daring among us. Its pleasing symmetry is bolstered by eco-friendly production, as it’s made using metal-free processing and reclaimed leathers. If this is a taste of Furla’s future, we can’t wait to see what comes out of Progetto next.
