Kate Moss Proves the Leather Midi Skirt Is Eternally Appealing
Kate Moss is era-defining—as synonymous with the look of Cool Britannia in the ’90s as she is with Indie Sleaze. And yet, when you take apart Moss’s wardrobe, it’s clear to see that the supermodel has always stuck to the classics. Case in point: her look to attend Tom Ford’s SS27 show during Paris Fashion Week on September 30.
The 52-year-old arrived in support of her friend and the brand’s creative director, Haider Ackermann, wearing a tried-and-tested formula of a button-down Oxford shirt and sleek and shiny leather pencil skirt. Her take was loaded with sex appeal and timeless allure in equal measure.
The brilliance of Moss’s look came in its application. She’s always been great at styling familiar pieces in inventive ways to bring them back into rotation. Here, she left her shirt open entirely and rolled up the sleeves, with the high waist of the skirt stepping in at just the right point. Her choice of a string bra kept things feeling more contemporary than the more obvious choice of something lacy, perhaps. Sunglasses for the nighttime added A-list appeal, while her green stone ring reminded us of her often bohemian style sensibility. The final touch of strappy sandals finished Moss’s look with the sky-high heels she often turns to.
The cut of the skirt was key, too. Its pencil shape added to that classic ideal of sex-appeal dressing, feeling typically true of Tom Ford’s design signature that Ackermann now does his own way. It’s a shape that never goes out of style, whether it’s worn like Moss or in contrast with a roomy wool jumper or a lacy camisole.
It’s the skirt of the season. How will you wear yours?
