Take a Look at the Stunning Italian Estate That Plays a Role on The Diplomat

For the end of The Diplomat season 4, our favorite characters made their way from the London halls of government to scenic Tuscany, where they attend a G7 summit. One of their particularly camera-friendly stops was the 16th-century Viesca Toscana, which was once the home of Ferragamo founders Salvatore and Wanda Ferragamo and is now a small luxury hotel. Though the Ferragamos, who extensively renovated the home, no longer own it, the family remains involved. Vittoria Ferragamo, the granddaughter of Salvatore and Wanda, oversees the destination.

The estate.

Viesca Toscana sits on 170 acres, and guests stay either in the original Villa Viesca, the Ferragamo family’s original home, or in the private villas that sprawl across the property. Villa Viesca sleeps up to 18 guests. The hotel’s décor includes meticulously sourced antique pieces, hand-painted frescoes, and custom wallpaper, much of which is original to the Ferragamo family’s own design.

Scenes shot on the property include an al fresco dinner for Ambassador Kate (Kerri Russell), Vice President Hal (Rufus Sewell), first gentleman Todd (Bradley Whitford), and President Grace (Allison Janney) held on the Villa Viesca terrace. We also see both Todd and Grace embracing in the living room, Hal and Kate in the garden, and Todd pantsless in bed in one of the bedrooms, with a brilliant fresco on the wall.

Subtle hints of the Ferragamo legacy can be seen—from sketches of shoe designs to cushions made from Ferragamo fabrics. Villa Viesca has always had a fashion pedigree, but now it’s achieved TV fame, as well.
