27-year-old nursing mother shot dead along Tilli–Widnaba road

A 27-year-old nursing mother, Koyraga Nbeduma, has been shot dead by two unidentified gunmen along the Tilli–Widnaba road in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, when Ms Nbeduma and another woman, Barikisu Ali, were returning to Widnaba after going to mill corn at Azupupunga in the Tilli Electoral Area.

The two women were reportedly attacked by the gunmen while travelling home.

Ms Ali reportedly managed to flee the scene and seek refuge, leaving her bicycle behind as she escaped from the attackers.

The three-month-old baby of the deceased was later found by the roadside, while Ms Nbeduma’s body was discovered about 200 metres from the road in a nearby maize farm.

The incident was reported to the Zebilla Police, who transported the body to a hospital for examination.

A nurse on duty, Inusah Lukman, confirmed the death, after which the body was released to the family for burial.

Family demands answers
A family member, Ali Sulemana, described the incident as shocking and devastating, saying the family was deeply distressed by the circumstances surrounding the death.

He said the deceased had left home as usual but never returned, leaving the family devastated by the loss.

The Zebilla Police Commander, DSP Jackson Kpirtufe, confirmed the incident and said the motive for the attack had not yet been established.

He said the police had launched investigations to determine what led to the shooting and identify those responsible for the death.
