How It All Began: From A Conversation on Ghanaian Nurses to a Broader Institutional Partnership
The partnership traces its beginnings to a visit by a delegation from the Office of the Mayor of Columbus, Ohio, to the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) in February 2026.
During the engagement, the delegation explored several areas of potential collaboration, including the possibility of facilitating opportunities for qualified Ghanaian nurses to work in the United States, particularly within the healthcare sector.
Recognizing the importance of government coordination and appropriate institutional processes, the CEO of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Ms Margaret Ansei, led the delegation to the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment for further discussions.
The engagement explored possible approaches to making the proposed movement of Ghanaian nurses a reality while ensuring that relevant labour, regulatory, and professional considerations were taken into account.
The initial discussions subsequently developed into wider consultations involving the Ministry of Health.
