Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reportedly Haven’t Decided If Their U.K. Move Will Be Permanent
THE RUNDOWN
- Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are moving back to the U.K. but have not decided whether the move will be permanent, multiple sources revealed.
- The couple’s businesses and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, will remain based in California.
- Meghan and Harry are not committed to staying a set amount of time in the U.K. and are keeping their Montecito, California house.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be moving to the U.K. in just days, before their children, Archie and Lilibet, begin school there in September. However, the couple hasn’t decided how long they will be staying in Britain or if it’ll become their permanent home base.
As People, The Telegraph, and Entertainment Tonight have reported, Meghan and Harry are keeping their home in Montecito, California. TMZ learned they have no plans to sell the property either, with a source telling the outlet that they “love their home and the Montecito area, as well as the great friend group they’ve built for themselves and their family.”
Sources suggested to The Telegraph that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be based in the U.K. for “an extended period,” but they haven’t made a decision yet on whether they will stay for good.
A source gave TMZ similar intel this afternoon, saying the couple sees the move as a “temporary” relocation.
An insider explained that Meghan and Harry aren’t committed to staying a set period of time like six months or a year, either. Rather, it’s “more of a day-by-day decision,” the source said.
The teams for Meghan and Harry’s business Archewell Productions and Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle brand will remain based in California, sources told TMZ.
Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, will also remain in Los Angeles, insiders told the outlet, where she is part of the local yoga community and “has a life she’s not ready to leave behind.”
Earlier today, a royal insider told Entertainment Tonight there is no suggestion that King Charles’s health was the reason behind Meghan and Harry’s relocation. (Charles was diagnosed with “a form of cancer” in 2024 and has been receiving treatment.)
While the source said the royal family was “blindsided” by Meghan and Harry’s decision to move back, Charles in particular “naturally welcomes the opportunity to see more of the Sussex family.”
