Ghanaians injured in UAE missile attack recovering well – Ablakwa

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured that Ghanaians who were injured during a recent missile attack in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are recovering steadily.

According to him, three Ghanaians were affected by the incident, which is linked to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, but all are responding well to treatment.

“I am equally glad to report that all three Ghanaians who were injured in the UAE as a result of the recent Middle East conflict are recovering quite well,” he said in a Facebook post following a working visit to the Gulf state.

The Foreign Minister disclosed that he had personally checked on the victims during his trip and expressed satisfaction with their recovery process. He highlighted one of the victims, Philip Degbevi, who sustained injuries during the attack.

“Really happy to have met Philip Degbevi… and to see that he has made a full recovery after sustaining injuries from a missile attack at the Dubai Airport,” he noted.

Mr Ablakwa also commended authorities in the UAE for their support to the affected Ghanaians, describing their intervention as timely and helpful.

“The Government of Ghana commends UAE authorities for their kind support for all the Ghanaian victims,” he stated.

He further assured that the government is taking steps to ensure the victims are properly compensated.

“We are committed to ensuring that all victims are adequately compensated,” he added.

Touching on broader concerns, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, especially amid rising tensions in the Gulf region.

“The Mahama Administration is determined to extend consular assistance and empathy to the victims and all Ghanaians living in the Gulf countries at this period of heightened hostilities,” he said.

Mr Ablakwa also used the opportunity to engage with members of the Ghanaian community in the UAE, where he reiterated government’s support.

“I also met with the leadership of the Ghanaian community and assured them of the strong solidarity of their Government in these turbulent times,” he noted.

He revealed that there are approximately 60,000 Ghanaians currently living in the UAE, working across various sectors including aviation, education, engineering, business, domestic services and hospitality.

The Foreign Minister commended Ghana’s diplomatic representatives in the UAE for their efforts in supporting citizens.

“I commend our Ambassador and the Consul General for the great job they are doing,” he said.
