Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Designs Her Dream Summer Wardrobe With ViX Paula Hermanny
“As you can imagine, I have an extensive swimsuit collection,” Rosie Huntington-Whiteley says with a smile. But, “I just always go back to this one swimsuit,” she finishes. It’s a pink floral bikini from ViX Paula Hermanny that she bought nearly a decade ago, and right now, the iconic Victoria’s Secret bombshell is telling me about her newly announced collaboration with the brand.
Over the years, Huntington-Whiteley has amassed quite a collection of ViX swimwear. So when she got a call while on a work trip in São Paulo, Brazil, with an offer to collaborate on a project, she was immediately excited. “I’m very selective about the collaborations that I do,” she says. “The most important thing for me is that there’s an authentic relationship and story there.”
She might be a supermodel, but like most women, Huntington-Whiteley finds swimwear daunting. “It can be an overwhelming experience,” she says. “I’m a mother of two. When I’m on holiday with the kids, I’m running around. My swimwear needs to do a lot of hard work for me.” Whether it’s playing in the sand, diving into the water, taking photos, or running to lunch, she needs pieces that can do it all—and make her feel good, too. “I have bits of my body that I’m more confident with than others. So for me, finding a swimwear line that has incredible cuts, fabrics, prints, and colors is essential.”
That balance, she says, is exactly what she’s found in ViX. “It’s got this elegance, this timelessness to it, but it still has that charming Brazilian sexiness and playfulness that I want.” So the opportunity to create her fantasy summer wardrobe with one of her favorite brands was like a dream come true.
This marks the first of three collections she’ll release, each with a distinct feel. The debut is inspired by the 1970s and Brazil. The process began with a mood board—Huntington-Whitel says she likes to start there, doing extensive photo research. She studied her own collection, noting what she likes about her swimwear as well as what she doesn’t, and even sent pieces from her personal wardrobe to be swatched or replicated.
“Fabric is so crucial, particularly with swim. We want fabric that makes us feel really supported, literally,” she says.
When it comes to shopping for swimwear, her best advice is simple: Know what works for you and stick to it. “There’s nothing wrong with that. Maybe you’re a bandeau girl, maybe you’re a triangle girl. I think that’s what keeps me going back to ViX time and time again—I know the cuts work for me. Then I can relax and just enjoy the day, because I don’t want to be fiddling with a funny strap. I want to put something on and know it’s going to give me maximum output with minimum input.”
According to Huntington-Whiteley, standout pieces from the collection include the Cocoon shirt, which can be styled in a variety of ways, as well as the Tammy bottom and a breezy caftan. The Moniker short is also a favorite—an update on the ’90s boyshort that’s ideal for active beach days. “I’m often swimming in the water or diving somewhere, and I want something that’s going to hold up. You can throw on a T-shirt or a blouse or cover-up, and it takes you straight to lunch.”
Huntington-Whiteley also notes that many of the pieces come with a scarf that can serve as a belt, a neck scarf, or even a hair accessory, as well as movable hardware that functions “almost like a piece of jewelry in itself.”
All in all, the line reflects how the model approaches fashion as a whole: with intention, ease, and a clear sense of what works. With pieces designed to feel as good as they look, it’s no surprise she keeps coming back to ViX—only now, she’s helping shape what comes next.
