When to Watch New Episodes of The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2
Five years can change everything, but it can’t erase the past. Apple TV’s The Last Thing He Told Me returned for season 2 on February 20, picking up after the events of season 1, in which Hannah Hall (Jennifer Gardner) must deal with the fallout of her husband Owen’s disappearance. Reeling from the cryptic note he left behind (which read, simply, “Protect her”), Hannah embarked on a mission to uncover the web of secrets left in Owen’s wake, while attempting to connect with her guarded teenage stepdaughter, Bailey (Angourie Rice). In the end, what they discovered together would permanently alter both their realities.
Season 2 jumps ahead five years, with Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) attempting to re-connect with his family. In the years since he disappeared, Hannah and Bailey have built a safer life by distancing themselves from his dangerous past. But if the newly released Apple TV trailer is any indication, Owen’s return threatens to undo that stability—and force both Hannah and Bailey to make impossible decisions. “It’s hard to move forward when you’re looking over your shoulder,” Garner wrote on Instagram on January 20 while announcing the show’s return.
The first season of the series was based on Laura Dave’s bestselling novel of the same name. Dave remained closely involved in the show’s evolution alongside her husband, showrunner Josh Singer: After season 1 premiered in April 2023, Apple TV officially renewed the series in March 2024, and Dave went on to continue Hannah’s story in a sequel novel, The First Time I Saw Him. The book was published on Jan. 6, 2026, just weeks ahead of the new season’s premiere.
