TWICE is one of K-pop’s most influential girl groups. The nine-member ensemble comprises Nayeon, Jihyo, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. Known for catchy choruses, sleek choreography, and global appeal, TWICE debuted in 2015 through JYP Entertainment’s reality show Sixteen, which documented a fierce competition among trainees vying for a spot in the group. Since then, it has sold more than 20 million albums, JYP Entertainment announced last year.
On Oct. 10, 2025, TWICE released its fifth studio album, TEN: The Story Goes On, marking the members’ decade-long journey together. Days later, the group made history as the first K-pop girl band to perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. TWICE also became the first K-pop girl group to headline Lollapalooza in August and to sell out L.A.’s SoFi Stadium and New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium in 2023.
“Ten years is a long time, but it also went by very fast,” Nayeon told W magazine in July 2025. “We worked really hard, and a lot happened to us. We dedicated our twenties to this career. So the last decade is very precious—it holds such special meaning for us.”
Over the years, each member has carved out her own role—not just onstage but as a public personality and creative force. Below, get to know each member and their defining qualities that have made TWICE a global phenomenon.
Nayeon
Im Nayeon, born Sept. 22, 1995, is the oldest member and one of the group’s lead vocalists and lead dancers. The South Korean singer was selected early during the Sixteen competition and quickly became a face of TWICE.
In 2022, Nayeon became the first member of the group to debut solo with her EP, Im Nayeon, featuring the hit single “POP!” She spoke to ELLE at the time, saying, “When I was originally planning the album, I was nervous. But when I started actually preparing for it [during the first half of this year], I found it really exciting. Because it was a new experience for me. And I had people next to me who helped me and supported me every step of the way. So I felt really grateful and ready.”
Her solo project marked a new chapter in her career, showcasing a more personal side beyond the group’s identity. But she noted that she owes her success as a solo artist to TWICE. “There would be no NAYEON without TWICE,” she told ELLE.
Jihyo
Park Ji-hyo is the leader and main vocalist of TWICE. Born on Feb. 1, 1997, in South Korea, she joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee at eight years old and trained for about 10 years before debuting with the group in October 2015.
Jihyo has opened up about previous challenges she experienced as a vocalist. While promoting her 2023 debut solo EP, ZONE, on the talk show Leemujin Service, she revealed that she was “scolded a lot” early in her career. “Many people said to me that I can’t sing that well,” she explained.
Eventually, she grew into a stronger singer and assumed the leadership role on TWICE. In a 2024 interview on the YouTube series Naraesik, she admitted that she considered stepping down when the group entered contract renewal negotiations around the seven-year mark. Ultimately, she decided to stay because being a leader “is just how I am,” she said.
Outside of performing, Jihyo has taken up other activities, including pilates, snowboarding, ice hockey, and golf. Speaking on her interest in golf in 2022, she told GQ Korea: “I need something burning inside me to play with passion. If I don’t have a competitive spirit, it’s not fun. I used to be addicted to computer games, but I was so stressed because I wasn’t good at them. So I decided to just give them up and let them go.”
In a 2021 Vanity Fair video, she admitted that her “guilty pleasure” is playing dramas “at all times” when she’s home. “Before I sleep, I turn it on, close my eyes, and let it play,” she added. “I feel anxious or something if I don’t have it on.”
Jeongyeon
Yoo Jeong-yeon serves as one of the group’s lead vocalists. Born on Nov. 1, 1996, Jeongyeon brings a tone of maturity and poise to many TWICE songs, and she’s often recognized for her strong, calm presence on stage.
The South Korean performer has previously taken breaks from the public eye for health reasons. In October 2020, she took a three-month hiatus due to anxiety; she took a longer pause in August 2021 due to “panic and psychological anxiety,” her agency announced, and made her comeback the following year. On her YouTube show, Inspector, Jeongyeon revealed that she worked as a barista at a friend’s coffee shop during her hiatus.
In July 2025, it was announced that she’d make her acting debut in the upcoming Korean thriller, New Recruit: The Movie, breaking into the same field as her older sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon. According to reports from South Korea’s YTN outlet, via Times of India, Jeongyeon will play a supporting role as a nursing officer.
Outside of music, she’s tried multiple sports, including tennis, snowboarding, surfing, and boxing, per GQ Korea.
Momo
Hirai Momo, born Nov. 9, 1996, is known as TWICE’s main dancer. Her choreographic precision and technique prompted the other members to name her the best dancer of the group in a 2021 Wired video. Originally from Japan, Momo was trained in dance from a young age and has often described dance as her passion.
“When I was young, I danced because I loved it. I wasn’t that good, but I loved dancing in front of people,” she told GQ Korea in July 2024. “I liked the way they responded to my dancing, and that’s when I realized it was fun.” She added that even though she’s usually more introverted, performing brings out a different side of her: “During dance class, I needed to be in the front row, right next to the teacher. Normally, I’m not the type to seek attention or stand out, but when it came to dancing, I was different.”
On Sixteen, Momo was eliminated but reinstated before making the group. In a December 2023 interview with Onitsuka Tiger, a Japanese footwear and apparel company, she opened up about her gratitude for TWICE’s fandom. “Concerts are the best opportunity to meet the fans who cheer you on. This is the source of our energy,” she said. She went on to share her goals for the group, saying, “As a member of TWICE, my hope is that we can remain healthy and become grandmothers together as pals.”
The dancer is also part of MiSaMo, a subunit comprising Japanese TWICE members Momo, Sana, and Mina. Since debuting in 2023, the J-pop group has dropped two EPs: Masterpiece and Haute Couture.
Sana
Minatozaki Sana, born Dec. 29, 1996, is a Japanese member of TWICE, serving primarily as a vocalist. Known for her cheerful personality and aegyo charm—a Korean term that means “acting cute” or “cuteness”—Sana brings warmth and humor to the group’s identity. Her multilingual background as a Japanese native speaker who also works fluently in Korean has helped her earn international appeal.
Speaking with L’Officiel Singapore in 2023, she shared her thoughts on TWICE’s fandom and being one of the highest-selling K-pop groups of all time: “For eight years, we have received so much love and support, and I’m so grateful and proud that we are continuing to break our own records—above all, I think it’s much more meaningful that every step of the way and every moment, our fans, ONCE, are together with us.”
Although Sana described herself as “shy” in a 2021 Vanity Fair video, she seems to thrive in front of the camera. She hosts a web series called Sana’s Fridge Interview, on which she interviews fellow pop stars and celebrity friends such as J-Hope of BTS. She’s also worked as a brand ambassador for several luxury labels, including Ralph Lauren, Prada, Graff, and YSL Beauty.
Mina
Myoui Mina is another Japanese member of TWICE. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on March 24, 1997, and raised in Nishinomiya, Japan. She performs as a main dancer and a sub-vocalist, known for her calm stage presence and soft, airy singing. She’s also a gamer who enjoys playing Minecraft.
During TWICE’s Feel Special era in July 2019, Mina took a six-month break from the group due to “extreme anxiety,” according to a statement from her team—an announcement that helped highlight mental-health pressures in K-pop.
Speaking with Cosmopolitan in 2022, Mina opened up about how she had changed since the start of TWICE. “I am more talkative now than when I first debuted, and it’s gotten easier for me to express myself,” she said. “I think that comes from communicating with our fans and also from being with our members. I almost feel like I have more feelings now.” She also shared that her fellow group members have helped her try new things like waterskiing.
In a 2021 Vanity Fair clip, Mina said the first time she realized she was famous was when she saw a poster of TWICE out in public. “It was really fascinating. When I was looking at it, I was thinking, ‘Is this me?’” the ballet-trained dancer admitted. In the same video, she shared a fun fact about herself, revealing that her favorite actor is Dwayne Johnson because he’s “in a lot of my favorite movies, like the Fast and the Furious series and Jumanji.”
Dahyun
As the group’s lead rapper and supporting vocalist, Kim Da-hyun brings energy and humor to TWICE. Born on May 28, 1998, the South Korean artist is recognized for her dynamic performance style, especially when she’s rapping. She’s also a skilled pianist.
Outside of music, Dahyun has talked about her passion for reading. In 2024, she was part of the “Read With Me” campaign for Yes24, a South Korean online retailer that sells books, concert tickets, and other products. “When things are hectic, there comes a time when you just need to relax,” she said in a video for the campaign. “I usually read books when I’m by myself. When I’m reading, I feel like I can fully focus on myself. So I find it very precious and valuable.”
Earlier this year, she also starred in the Korean film You Are the Apple of My Eye, a remake of the 2011 Taiwanese romance. Following the movie’s theatrical release on February 21, Dahyun spoke about the opportunity to act. “There’s this overwhelming sense of gratitude,” she said, per The Korea Herald. “Just seeing it on-screen feels surreal. When I was little, my mom used to ask if she’d ever see me in a movie. This moment means everything—not just because it’s my first solo venture, but because acting has been my dream for so long. I prepared so intensely for this opportunity.” Most recently, she starred in another film called Run to You, which hit theaters in South Korea on Sept. 10, 2025.
Chaeyoung
Son Chae-young, born April 23, 1999, is TWICE’s main rapper and a supporting vocalist. She’s helped pen several songs, including “Sweet Summer Day,” “Rush,” and “Basics.”
Known for her expressive, edgier style, both in fashion and in music, she released her solo debut album, Lil Fantasy Vol. 1, on Sept. 12, 2025. She spoke to Billboard about the project on which she wrote and composed every track, saying, “I explored myself a lot during this project—what I think, what I feel—and even my drawings fed into the music. Friends, who are a big part of me, also inspired me. From there, I picked the songs I loved most and curated the final 10 for the album.”
Alongside Jihyo and Jeongyeon, Chaeyoung also recorded “Takedown,” the pulse-pounding song that closes Netflix’s global hit KPop Demon Hunters. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said the trio accepted the opportunity, not knowing how successful the film would be. “It just sounded like a lot of fun,” the South Korean artist explained. “And personally, I love anime, so I was very curious to see how it was going to come out. The soundtrack itself is very different from our style, so it was an opportunity to challenge ourselves.”
In 2021, Chaeyoung told Vanity Fair her biggest artistic influence is Lady Gaga; she also revealed that she wants to collaborate with Doja Cat.
Tzuyu
Chou Tzuyu, the youngest member, was born on June 14, 1999, in Taiwan. She’s a lead dancer, sub-vocalist, and visual, a K-pop term referring to a member who’s highlighted for their appearance and stage presence. Sixteen viewers specifically selected her to become part of TWICE during the reality show’s run in 2015.
Speaking with Cosmopolitan in 2022, Tzuyu said she “didn’t imagine” the level of fame that TWICE would achieve, but decades from now, she wants “to be remembered as the legendary band of our time.”
In 2024, Tzuyu made her solo debut with her mini-album, abouTZU, telling Rolling Stone, “My goal is to give back my love to my fans. That is the important part for me.” She also shared how being multilingual inspired her creative process: “When I start the general ideation process, I tend to think in Chinese,” she said. “Then when I look at the specific lyrics, I tend to think in Korean. For English, I tend to think about which words would be the most harmonious and natural. English is very hard, but some lyrics just tend to fall naturally in English.”
In addition to singing and dancing, Tzuyu can play the guzheng, a traditional Chinese zither.
