Tonight, designers, VIPs, industry icons, and some of the best-dressed celebrities around gathered at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the 2025 Fashion Awards, presented by Pandora. BAFTA- and Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo played host for the evening, donning a Burberry double-breasted suit. The night had plenty in store on and off the stage—both boho-chic icon Sienna Miller and singer Ellie Goulding surprise-announced their pregnancies. 2024 Model of the Year winner Alex Consani arrived in a distressed skull-motif gown arm-in-arm with McQueen designer Seán McGirr, further pushing the long-awaited skull scarf renaissance agenda; meanwhile 2025 Model of the Year winner Anok Yai descended the carpet glowing in custom Dilara Findikoğlu.

Inside the hall, the stage was stacked with entertainment. Raye commemorated the event with a beautiful rendition of Ella Fitzgerald’s “Cry Me a River.” Chanel, which takes to New York tomorrow to stage its 2026 Métiers d’art collection, celebrated 100 years in the U.K. with a joyous ballet performance.

As the evening got under way, newly appointed Hermès menswear designer Grace Wales Bonner unsurprisingly won British Menswear Designer of the Year—for the second year in a row. Likewise, Jonathan Anderson clinched Designer of the Year for the third year running. Sarah Burton took home British Womenswear Designer of the Year. The award was presented to her by Cate Blanchett, one of the first wearers of Burton’s ultra-feminine Givenchy designs, who referred to the creative director and friend as a “new type of genius,” lauding her for her kindness and “kick-ass grace.”

This year’s ceremony is the first under new leadership for the British Fashion Council. In April, Laura Weir, a former executive creative director at Selfridges, took over as CEO of the organization, succeeding Caroline Rush, who spent 16 years in the role. Weir’s appointment came as an opportunity for a new chapter in the British fashion scene—one that has historically worked to pioneer young, renegade designers but has experienced growing pains in the calendar’s reorganization post-Covid. In her first eight months, Weir has approached the task with optimism, enacting incremental changes, among them removing the fee charged to designers who participate on the official London Fashion Week schedule and forming a new educational program geared towards university students titled Fashion Assembly.

Weir’s larger goals for the BFC—namely, expanding the international reach of British fashion—came into play this evening at her first annual awards. Already, the event raised over £1 million, double that of last year’s efforts. Kate Hawley took home the first-ever Costume Designer of the Year Award for her exceptional work across numerous artistic mediums such as opera, ballet, and film, including, most recently, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein starring ELLE’s November cover girl, Mia Goth. The inaugural award represents Weir’s wish to recognize the ever-growing relationship between fashion, arts, cinema, and sports.
