Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Decided ‘as a Couple’ If He Should Retire

Travis Kelce had a big decision to make after the Super Bowl, and Taylor Swift was part of it. Page Six reports that he and Swift seriously discussed whether he should retire from the Kansas City Chiefs at age 35. Kelce ultimately decided to play one more season, with his girlfriend’s blessing.
The source explained that the pair, who have been dating for more than a year and a half, “definitely discussed [the decision] as a couple.” Swift advocated for him to play again: “She didn’t want Travis to retire. She wanted him to go out on a high note.”
She was ultimately “happy [with his choice to continue],” the source said, adding that “of course” Swift will be attending his games next season. She “plans to make it to as many games as possible,” the outlet wrote.
Kelce announced he would be returning to the Chiefs on February 27. On the March 5 episode of New Heights, his podcast with brother Jason Kelce, he added, “The biggest thing [that inspired my decision] is I fucking love playing the game of football. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year.”
Regarding the Super Bowl specifically, which the team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 22-40, Kelce said, “I don’t think it was my best outing. I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in years past.”
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Kelce shut down talk of Swift pushing him to retire. “She’s fully encouraging me to enjoy playing this game,” he said on The Stephen A. Smith Show. “She loves coming to Arrowhead [Stadium] and coming to the games and cheering for me, so I’ve got all the support in the world to keep chasing these dreams.”
