“It’s official, a Red, White, & Royal Blue sequel is in the works!” Amazon MGM Studios tweeted on Thursday, May 9. The studio further confirmed the news with a teaser poster that reads, “Fancy another slice?” The answer is certainly yes.
In a clip posted by Entertainment Weekly, the film’s director, Matthew López, broke the news during a special screening of the film on May 9. “Yes, there’s gonna be a sequel,” he said, and the audience immediately began to cheer.
The rom-com is based on the wildly popular novel of the same title by Casey McQuiston, which was originally published in 2019. It follows Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the U.S. president, and the British Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), as they fall into an enemies-to-lovers romance and then must keep their relationship secret.

McQuiston hasn’t published a book sequel to Red, White, & Royal Blue. According to Entertainment Weekly, the author won’t be writing a second novel but will instead be “directly involved with writing the screenplay.”
Details about the plot haven’t been released yet, but we can look to the ending of the first movie for hints: Alex and Henry go public with their relationship at Buckingham Palace, and Alex’s mom gets elected for another term after Texas finally votes blue.
