Margot Robbie Marked Her 32nd Birthday With a Very Barbie Birthday Party on Set

Margot Robbie turned 32 on July 2, and while the actress was working that day on the Barbie movie in Los Angeles, the cast and crew surprised her with a very pink, doll-themed birthday celebration.

Robbie was photographed on set, decked out in her character Barbie’s roller skating outfit, while carrying a party hat and pink box of donuts, according to E!. She also received a “Happy Birthday Barbie Margot” cake, complete with a Barbie in it, that photographers captured.

Not much is known about the plot of the Barbie film, which has purposely been kept under wraps. Set photos have been trickling out from its production though, piquing public interest. Robbie, in particular, has been photographed in two different outfits on set: her skater look above and an all-pink cowgirl look, which you can see below. Footage also emerged of her very American Barbie voice on Twitter. (Robbie is Australian.)

Last June, Robbie spoke to British Vogue a little about the project. She shared that she understands the controversy attached to the Barbie movie and the doll historically. “Right, it comes with a lot of baggage!” she said with a smile. “And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it.”

She teased the movie won’t be what people expect it to be. “People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’” she said, trailing off.
