Governor Obaseki’s Infrastructure Renewal on display as Edo NUJ Media Tour Continues – Nigerian Observer

The Governor Godwin Obaseki administration’s infrastructure renewal in the State was on display as the phased Edo Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) media tour continued on Thursday with the tour of projects executed by the government in Benin City and its environs.

The media team led by the Chairman of the Union Comrade Festus Alenkhe commenced the day’s business with a tour of a cluster of several kilometres road network and bridges on the Arogba, Amagba, Ogunweyi-Ogheghe axis of Benin City.

The tour revealed newly constructed and completely paved major and link roads, including bridges that have turned the hitherto obscured settlements into hubs of businesses.

Aside of the Amagba link roads and bridges, the media team also took a tour of the on-going construction of the over ten kilometres Obarentin Forest Reserve Road, Ologbo meant to open up the area with side drains and asphalt overlay nearing completion along the Benin/Sapele highway.

The roads inspected which residents including motorists plying the them said have eased movement of goods and services in the area when compared to what obtained in time past when accessing their homes and properties there as well as plying their trades respectively in the area was almost impossible, commended the State Government for the kind gesture, stressing that they will always remain grateful to the Governor for coming to their rescue.

They said that communities in the Arogba/Amagba axis had for many years borne the pains and odium of non-patronage by past administrations in the state before the Obaseki’s administration wiped their tears with the high quality roads.

They however pleaded with the Governor to direct the contractors to construct the necessary side drains to channel flood water to nearby rivers to prolong the life span of the roads and also prevent flood from entering their homes.

Other landmark projects being executed by the Governor visited by the media team included the Benin City Mall, a multi billion naira facility conceptualized by the Obaseki’s administration and designed to encompass state-of-the-arts Shopping Mall, Cinema, an e-library, Restaurants, etc; an ultra-modern multi storeyed New Ministry of Agriculture Complex sitting on the Agric Development Programme ADP premises, Oko-Ogba Road; the Gulf Mews, a multi-floor buy-to-own luxury residential apartments for purchase by interested Edo people in the Diaspora.

The remodeled Edo State Secretariat Buildings which has beautified the Benin City landscape and the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) designed by the present administion in the State to build the capacity of public servants and equip them to perform their duties optimally also caught the attention of the journalists on tour.

The media team also made brief stop byes at the Edo Modular Refinery and the Ossiomo Power Plant that supplies electricity to all government buildings and facilities in the State.

Chairman of the NUJ Comrade Festus Alenkhe in summing up the tour said it was designed to bring to the awareness of the generality of Edo people and the global community the great achievements of the Governor Obaseki’s administration through concise and unbiased projection of same in the media space.

The Chairman said the exercise which will still continue with the tour of government projects in Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts has afforded journalists opportunity to practically relate with the executed projects on ground and make objective reports in the form of news, features, including audio/visuals for the information of the viewing public.
