The Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Anselm Aidenojie II, has assured Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, of his subjects’ votes on September 19.

Receiving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in his palace in Uromi, Esan North East Council, the monarch blessed their re-election bid.

The traditional ruler, who listed the various projects executed by the Obaseki-led administration in his kingdom, assured the governor that Uromi people would show appreciation with their votes on September 19.

Hailing the governor for re-installing him to the throne after the former governor, Adams Oshiomhole, had suspended him, lauded him for the love shown to Esan people through political appointments.

On his part, Obaseki thanked the Esan people for their support and love for his administration, adding: “We can’t underplay the role of Uromi in the political development of the state and Nigeria at large.”

But the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said his Obaseki spent a whopping N6 billion to renovate the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City.

Describing the Obaseki administration as “a complete failure”, Ize-Iyamu told journalists in Abuja yesterday that facelift of an existing stadium could not have cost the state N6 billion.

He, however, assured that his campaign would be violence-free, adding: “If I lose the election, the worst that can happen is for me to go to court. I believe in democracy and I will defend it.”

Meanwhile, wife of the governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has urged Edo people to be ready to exercise their franchise and not be intimidated by those who boast about using federal might to impose unpopular candidate on them.

The Edo first lady gave the assurance yesterday in Benin City when leaders of tricycle and motorcycle riders unions in the three senatorial districts of the state visited her at the Government House.

However, Edo PDP has rejected the redeployment of Mr. Adeyinka Ayinla as the commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to the state, describing him as a lackey of APC national leader, Bola Tinubu.

The Publicity Secretary of Edo PDP, Chris Nehikhare, stated yesterday: “Once again, the Edo PDP restates its commitment to a peaceful, free and fair governorship election on September 19, 2020. We are, however, taken aback by the resolve of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win the election by all means.”
