Allow Mandy Moore’s Instagram Live to lead you down A Walk to Remember. On Sunday, April 5, she performed an at-home concert livestream of her music. One rare cover included in the acoustic set? A rendition of “Only Hope,” the 1999 Switchfoot song made famous by Moore’s 2002 film A Walk to Remember.
In a moment captured by Twitter user Ilana Kaplan, Moore can be seen singing in a polka-dot dress alongside husband and Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, who accompanied her on guitar.
Fans of Moore know this song well. In the Nicholas Sparks tearjerker, Moore plays Jamie Sullivan, a reverend’s daughter with a terminal cancer diagnosis. She unexpectedly falls for bad boy Landon Carter (Shane West). Their relationship begins during the school play; after Jamie sings an emotional “Only Hope,” Landon gives her an unplanned onstage kiss.
In a 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moore said that scene was her favorite to film. “I remember putting on that beautiful ice blue, silk dress and everyone fawning all over it. It was the first time that I wasn’t in a ratty sweater and an over-sized housedress.”
Moore announced on Instagram that she and Goldsmith will be doing weekly concerts on IG live, which means there’s plenty of time for songs from The Princess Diaries and Tangled.
