Deciphering the voices behind the outlandish disguises of The Masked Singer has become a strangely hypnotic pastime for TV viewers. Season 2 premiered on September 25 and people are already scrambling to identify who (other than previously unveiled Johnny Weir and Ninja) occupies the colorful characters.
The Flamingo is scheduled to take the stage during episode two, airing Wednesday night. Teases of her performance have left fans with an overwhelmingly popular prediction concerning her identity. In the initial preview, the Flamingo uttered that she would “rock this competition until my feathers fall off,” and, “I may never put my foot down but I’m still one fiery and fierce bird.”
While those statements are innocuous enough, fans got a real taste of who the bedazzled bird could be with a glimpse at her first performance. A clip of the Flamingo singing “Lady Marmalade” left viewers with one conclusion: that Adrienne Bailon Houghton of The Cheetah Girls was performing.
Users quickly compared the clip to samples of Houghton belting songs from the Disney Channel Original movies. In addition to the musical evidence, fans also noticed that in the original preview the Flamingo said, “I love this mask as much as I love mascara.” Interestingly enough, Houghton’s YouTube channel All Things Adrienne covers topics related to beauty and fashion.
However, that theory was somewhat disputed on Friday when Houghton, also a co-host of The Real talk show, denied voicing the Flamingo. She said, “I literally don’t understand how people can think I can do this show at 4 o’clock in the morning and that show at night, let’s start there. I actually think it’s really flattering ’cause people are saying really nice things, so that’s dope, but at the same time the answer is no. Guys! My breasts are big, but those breasts are, like, really big.”
Now that Houghton has removed herself from the race, other guesses tossed into the ether include Ciara, Fantasia, and…Marie Osmond, somehow? Although, most are still convinced that a Cheetah resides in the Flamingo costume.
