OKOIBHOLE RESTATES COMMITMENT TO SECURITY IN ESAN NORTH EAST
The Chairman, Esan North East Local Government Council of Edo State, Hon. Austine Okoibhole has reasserted that his administration would continue to accord security, priority attention in the local government area.
Hon. Okoibhole while speaking at an event to mark the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the Secretariat of the council, reassured that his administration would continue to prioritize security to sustain the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the local government area.
According to him, no meaning development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor and insecurity.
Lamenting the plight of Ex-servicemen, the council boss pointed out that the Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration was an opportunity for government at all levels, corporate organizations, individuals and the entire society to soberly reflect on the painful plight of Ex-servicemen who fought gallantly in the various World Wars, Civil War, Peace Keeping Operations, Boko Haram Insurgency, fight against Herdsmen and bandits, among others.
"The cherished sacrifice made by our heroes and heroines can best be appreciated when you see some of them who still bear evidence of physical disabilities as consequences of those wars and incursions. Today's occasions avails us the opportunity to reappraise our commitment and support for those of them who are still alive and the widows and children of the departed to alleviate their sufferings, spurring the spirit of patriotism among those of us alive and generations to come.
" You will agree with me when I say that the prowess, gallantry, and commitment demonstrated so far by our military personnel towards dismantling the Boko Haram insurgents, Fulani Militias and bandits terrorizing citizens and destroying lives and properties are sheer acts of discipline, sophistication and professionalism within the rank and file", he said.
He however called on everyone to be vigilant, security conscious and imbibe neighborhood watch, as the continuous dismantling of the noxious groups posed another security threat, as there was the likelihood of the fleeing members, finding their way into communities.
Hon. Okoibhole also used the medium to call on all to condemn in strong terms the divisive acts of those he described as selfish, self serving, misguided and misinformed elements, who despite the colossal sacrifices of the war veterans, continue to fan the embers of disunity, hiding under religion, tribal and political affiliations to kill, maim, harm the innocent defenceless Nigerians and destroying national assets.
The chairman of Ex-servicemen in Esan North East Local Government Area, Lt. Col. Ogbeide Arebamhen appreciated the the local government chairman for his support and pledged their loyalty to his administration.
He appealed to the local government chairman to consider the able bodied Ex-service men for recruitment into the local government vigilante Group and other positions, an appeal the chairman granted.
