Buhari Hosts Akinlade, Amosun’s Anointed And APM Candidate For Ogun Governorship

Barely two weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari met with Dapo Abiodun, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has also presented his preferred candidate to the President.

Amosun and his candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, who is contesting for Ogun governorship on the platform Allied Peoples Movement (APM), met with the President on Sunday.

Meanwhile, on December 28, 2018, Abiodun had met with the President in the company of Olusegun Osoba, a former Governor of the state.

Amosun has repeatedly stated his decision not to support the APC candidate in the state and has pitched his tent with the APM candidate.

The President’s seeming endorsement of both candidates has confused many, prompting Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman, to release a statement to clarify the situation.

“Following repeated media enquiries on the matter, the Presidency wishes to state in clear and unmistakable terms that as a party leader and a candidate on the platform of the APC in the coming elections, President @MBuhari will campaign for the party and all its candidates,” Shehu tweeted on Sunday.

“This however does not mean that he, as the nation’s leader, will decline courtesy calls or offers of support from citizens including candidates flying the flags of other parties.

“There is no doubt that the President has no competition here in terms of popularity in the coming elections. But the more support he gets, the wider the margin of victory there will be. So, please let there be no confusion about this. President Buhari is APC. He will campaign for all APC candidates, but he welcomes support and endorsements.”
