Remain apolitical, Oba of Benin tells traditional rulers – Daily Trust

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has urged traditional rulers in Edo State to remain non-partisan and learn to play fatherly role to politicians irrespective of party affiliation.

Oba Ewuare gave the advice weekend while hosting the Onojie of Uromi, Zaiki Anselm Aidonojie II, who was at the palace to thank him for his role in restating him as the Onojie of Uromi.

The Onojie had been deposed by the administration of a former governor, Adams Oshomhole, in 2016 over alleged travelling abroad without permission, among other offences.

The Benin monarch said traditional rulers are expected to pray for the emergence of political leadership that would respect the traditional institutions and effectively tackle and manage public resources for the benefit of the society and eliminate poverty among the people.
