BENIN-TWO persons were feared dead while over seven sustained serious injuries, Tuesday, when armed bandits attacked one of the new generation banks in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, Edo State.

Vanguard was informed that the robbers made away with millions of naira.

Meanwhile, Police in the state, Tuesday, paraded six suspected kidnappers, including those allegedly involved the abduction of the wife of the Attorney-General of the state, Mrs. Florence Obayuwana.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the robbers, who stormed the bank with sophisticated weapons at about 8:30am, shot sporadically, forcing people, including the Mobile Policemen manning different check points in the area, to run into the bush.

The eyewitness said: “We noticed two bodies after the robbers left. But we are yet to know who they are. Several people around that area sustained gunshot injuries and we rushed them to a Hospital in Irrua.

“There was no resistance from the Police. That is sad. You will notice a lot of check points in Uromi. But when the robbers came, they all ran into the bush.”

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Peter Ogboi, confirmed the incident, adding that he was yet to be properly briefed by the DPO in Uromi.

Meanwhile, Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr. David Omojola, who paraded the suspected kidnappers, said they were arrested on a tip off.

He disclosed that the suspects confessed that two million naira was paid as ransom for the release of the Attorney-General’s wife, adding “we also recovered items such as two locally made double barrel pistols, 14 live cartridges, seven GSM phones, N605,000 and one Audi 80 Saloon car with number plate DL807LSD.”
