Creating a Supercar from Scratch

Anyone can buy a Porsche, Rolls-Royce or Bugatti with enough money. Being able to drive down the street in the same car the Joker drives? Not many people can say they’ve done that. But thanks to Matt McEntegart, this dream is far from being unreal. The best part? It’ll cost you less than your Honda Civic.

McEntegart, who is the founder and owner of Vaydor Bodykits, created the car as a way for people who don’t have the money for a fancy Lamborghini to still have the chance to drive a supercar. Like nothing you’ve ever seen before, the car looks like it’s straight out of a movie—and it is. McEntegart’s car was featured in the 2016 movie “Suicide Squad,” as the Joker’s custom pink-wrapped car with white interior.

McEntegart didn’t necessarily build the whole car from scratch though—it’s what you would call a “rebody,” keeping the basic pieces of the car (engine, dashboard, motor, wiring, etc.) in place while removing the outer cosmetic portions of the car to be redesigned, remade and replaced. The result? A car meant for the big screen. And your garage.

Wanting to give everyone a chance to drive such a car, McEntegart started selling Vaydor kits for people to use. At $11,000, the kit includes everything you need to elevate your car: body shell, doors, vents, glass, the list goes on. It takes two months to build, with no major modifications to the base of the car’s motor function or wiring.

If building a car from the ground up doesn’t sound too appealing to you, don’t worry, there are options. Many custom car builders will assemble the Vaydor for you, including McEntegart himself. He created the car for people who didn’t have the means to buy a Lamborghini or Ferrari to still be able to feel as if they’re driving one, and he wants to be able to give that opportunity to the world.
