Egor Local Government Football Club Defeated Zenith Football Club of Uromi 2-0

Egor Local government wins the 17th Edition of Edo State House Assembly Speaker Unity Gold Cup

It was a moment of ecstasy in Uromi as Egor Local Government football club defeated Zenith football club of Uromi at the weekend 2-0 to claim the first position in the 17th Edition of Edo State 2019 Speaker’s Unity Gold Cup Competition organized by Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria(YSFON) in conjunction with Esan North East Local Government Council and Edo State House of Assembly.

The football tournament featured the 18 Local Government areas in the State and private Football Clubs from nooks and crannies of Edo State.

The grand finale of the tournament which started at 4pm, saw both teams displayed various tactics, skills and determination to bag the prestigious Speakers cup.

At exactly 32 minutes after the commencement of the game, a midfielder from Egor local government Football Club skilfully ran through the defenders of Zenith F.C. into the middle of the 18 yard box and this was converted into a beautiful goal by Egor local government Football Club striker to make the score 1-0.

In the 45 minutes of the game the Referee blew the half time whistle and the score line remained 1-0 in favour of Egor local government Football Club.

During the second half of the game, it was Egor local government Football club again, as they returned to the game refreshed and stronger especially in their attacks which eventually resulted in the second goal at exactly 53 minutes of the game to make the score line 2-0.

At the end of 90 minutes of play, Egor local government clinched the win of the competition by defeating Zenith Football Club 2-0.

Some players were awarded for their outstanding performances in the tournament.

Earlier, Egor local government Football club(female category) had won their game defeating their counterpart and were decorated by House of Assembly member representing Esan North East local government constituency(2) Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa.

The champion In the male category Egor local government F.C went home with the Speakers cup with undisclosed cash prize, while the runners up Zenith F.C. went home with the silver medal.

The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Frank Okiye giving his closing remarks, congratulated the winners for their brilliance performance and to other participants in the the tournament.

The Speaker commended them for their sense of decorum in deciding to embrace sports rather than taking to social vices.

Rt. Hon. Okiye, also reiterated that the House was determined to fashion out policies through legislative framework that will compliment the State Government in the area of sporting activities, especially as the State government is building stadia across the 18 Local Government areas of Edo State.
